Especially when the three people that started the season 3-0 have as much football knowledge as my little sister combine. Such are the tribulations behind fantasy football. It seems like every week I over think a win. Last minute changes have been the death of me. I am feeling very confident with my team now and feel that I could very easily be 500 by week six.

09/22/2009 – Houston QB Matt Schaub is heading into Week 3′s game at home against Jacksonville with a load of steam. Schaub struggled Week 1 against the Jets but threw for 357 yards with 4 touchdowns the following week at Tennessee as his offense had little trouble moving the football. The stars seem to be aligning for another solid game in Week 3 as the last time he faced the Jaguars, in Jacksonville last season, he threw for 307 yards with 3 scores and no interceptions.

Jacksonville is allowing almost 280 yards passing per game this season and has allowed 3 passing touchdowns in two games. It is pretty safe to assume that Schaub is in line for another solid week and should be active as a No. 1 Fantasy QB Week 3 against the Jaguars.

09/16/2009 – Texans QB Matt Schaub will face a division opponent in Week 1 at Tennessee. In two games against the Titans last season, Schaub totaled 472 yards with one touchdown and three interception. He was sacked six times.

Schaub has been dealing with a lingering ankle issue he suffered in the team’s second-to-last preseason game, but he did not blame that for his poor performance in Week 1 when he had just 166 passing yards and no touchdowns with an interception against the Jets. The poor performance coupled with a tough matchup against a good Titans defense, makes Schaub a very questionable play this league. Look for alternatives where possible until Schaub can get on track.

09/11/2009 – WR Kevin Walter (hamstring) did not practice Friday, and will be a game-time decision on Sunday, according to a CBSSports.com correspondent at Texans practice. QB Matt Schaub has been dealing with an injured left ankle, but is expected to play in Week 1. Schaub has practiced all week. Asked earlier in the week if he was 100 percent, Schaub said, “We’re getting there. In this business, I don’t know if you really ever are 100 percent.”

If healthy, Walter could hit 1,000 receiving yards this season with the Houston offense expected to be solid. With Andre Johnson and Steve Slaton around, defenses won’t be covering Walter as closely and he should be able to pick up some big plays for Schaub and the Texans. With Schaub less than 100 percent, however, and with one of his weapons possible to miss the game Fantasy owners should temper expectations against the Jets. The good news is the Jets are coming off a very poor year in terms of their pass defense where they gave up 234.5 yards passing per game last year and 23 passing touchdowns.

09/09/2009 – According to NFL.com, Gary Kubiak was happy with Matt Schaub‘s performance at practice Friday. “He did good,” Kubiak said. “He was a lot better today than he was yesterday. We got a chance to still be outside so to me that helps. We didn’t want to work on the turf in there. So all indications are he’s heading towards being fine.”

Matt Schaub should be good to go against the Jets in Week 1 and this quote from Kubiak is an encouraging sign. He might not be 100 percent to start the season but has a lot of weapons at his disposal and should have a decent performance against New York. Think of him as a low-end No. 1 Fantasy QB when healthy. The Jets are also without two of their better pass rushers in Calvin Pace and Shaun Ellis, who are suspended for this week.

09/25/2009 – After appearing to be just fine earlier this week, Broncos rookie RB Knowshon Moreno was listed on the team’s injury report with a groin problem, which means he got hurt on Thursday. He did not practice on Friday.

Just what Fantasy owners need — another running back injury in Denver. If Moreno is limited or can’t play, then Correll Buckhalter would take over as the primary rusher against the Raiders in Week 3 with LaMont Jordan and Peyton Hillis chipping in. Obviously, if you are planning to start Moreno this Sunday, be sure to have a backup plan in place in case he can’t go — Buckhalter would be a smart option. We’ll be first to know whether or not he’ll be active this Sunday on Fantasy Football Today, 11 a.m. ET here on CBSSports.com.

09/16/2009 – The Colorado Springs Gazette reports that Knowshon Moreno (knee) and Correll Buckhalter will continue to split carries. “We’re going to play everybody here,” offensive coordinator Mike McCoy said. “There will be a certain rotation we’re going to have, depending on the way the game is going. We have a plan going in how to play each guy, and the same thing with the receiver group. We’re going to play those guys ‘X’ number of plays and get them in there, and we’re going to keep certain guys in for certain plays.” McCoy also said the team would be willing to be flexible if a hot hand emerged during the game.

Moreno had a less than impressive debut with the Broncos Week 1 against the Bengals, finishing with only 19 rushing yards on the day. Until he proves himself to be a significant rushing force, think of him as nothing more than a low-end No. 3 RB. In Week 1, Buckhalter led the team with 46 rush yards on eight carries. However, he remains just a low-end option and should not be active unless you’re in dire need.

09/11/2009 – Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno said he’s not sure how much he’s going to play in Sunday’s opener at Cincinnati. Moreno played only one series in the preseason and is still recovering from a sprained knee ligament. He is listed as questionable for the game. With Moreno limited, it looks like RB Correll Buckhalter will get the first shot at seizing the No. 1 job for Week 1. Buckhalter is expected to start Sunday, with LaMont Jordan and Peyton Hillis serving as the primary backups.

The safe bet for Week 1 is to keep Moreno reserved against the Bengals. Buckhalter could be worth a flier in deep leagues, but look for Jordan and Hillis to also get carries. Our advice is to keep all the Broncos RB options reserved until we see how it all shakes out.

09/09/2009 - Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday as the team prepares for Week 1 at Cincinnati. Moreno is not yet at full speed and isn’t quite 100 percent. But he did say he is improving with each day.

As of Sunday, the Broncos’ official depth chart had Moreno as the fourth-string running back behind Correll Buckhalter, Peyton Hillis and LaMont Jordan. If Moreno does play Sunday, he could see limited touches. Moreno is at best a No. 3 Fantasy RB against a poor Bengals’ run defense, but the injury issue definitely clouds the picture. Continue to track his progress.

Well we are already underway with the week one matchup. Here is the team I have taking the field.

Matt Schaub QB HOU
Knowshon Moreno RB DEN
Brian Westbrook RB PHI
Greg Jennings WR GB
Calvin Johnson WR DET
Eddie Royal FLEX DEN
Jeremy Shockey TE NO
Mason Crosby K GB
Packers DST

The only person in my lineup I’m not thrilled about is Knowshon Moreno. He would not have been my first choice but with having my starter Pierre Thomas injured he will have to do. My opponents team is below.

Drew Brees QB NO
Edgerrin James RB SEA
Chris Johnson RB TEN 7 pts
Hines Ward WR PIT 16 pts
Reggie Wayne WR IND
Visanthe Shiancoe TE MIN
Todd Heap TE BAL
Stephen Gostkowski K NE
Cowboys DST

So the Steelers & Titans played Thursday this week so Chris Johnson and Hines Ward’s numbers are already in. Hines Ward had a decent week with 16 points and Chris Johnson had somewhat of a weak showing week one with 7 points. This should help take some of the pressure off Knowshon Moreno.

09/11/2009 – Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall carried the ball four times for six yards during a Week 1 win against the Titans. His longest gain went for three yards.

The Steelers are expecting a lot more from Mendenhall in 2009 after his rookie season was cut short in 2008 due to injury. The first week is not indicative of the Steelers’ plans since they couldn’t get the ground game going with Willie Parker or Mewelde Moore either. Mendenhall is going to get some touches every week, but as long as Parker is healthy, they will be limited. Mendenhall remains more of a low-end Fantasy RB and handcuff option for Parker owners. The Steelers play the Bears in Week 2.

09/08/2009 – Steelers RB Willie Parker may get his wish of being the short-yardage back this year. When asked who would be the goal-line back, offensive coordoinator Bruce Arians said Tuesday, “I think we’ll go with the guy that’s in the ball game unless he’s dead tired. Willie’s the man.” That means Rashard Mendenhall might not get as many carries heading into this year as previously expected.

Mendenhall will still get his share of carries this season, including in Week 1 vs. the Titans, but Parker remains the featured back in Pittsburgh. Consider Mendenhall a low-end Fantasy option against Tennessee and see how his role plays out going forward this year.

09/25/2009 – Saints TE Jeremy Shockey (ankle) is listed as probable for Week 3 at Buffalo. Shockey took full practice reps all week. Shockey, who has been battling ankle issues, has yet to miss a game and has eight catches for 80 yards. He also has two touchdowns.

Unless Shockey has a horrible setback, he will be on the field Sunday against the Bills. That’s great news for Fantasy owners since Buffalo is second to last in the league in pass defense. They have also been burned badly by tight ends in 2009. Ben Watson had a couple of scores in Week 1 against the Bills and Kellen Winslow and Jerramy Stevens both scored touchdowns for Tampa last week. Make sure Shockey is in your starting lineup for Week 3.

09/11/2009 – The Saints have listed TE Jeremy Shockey as probable on the injury report Friday with an ankle injury. He is expected to play in Week 1 against the Lions.

Keep Shockey active in all leagues for Week 1. The Lions, coming off an NFL worst 0-16 season, ranked as the worst statistical defense in 2008-09. They allowed an average of 404.4 total yards per game (232.2 passing, 172.2 rushing). You can expect QB Drew Brees to look for Shockey quite a bit

09/09/2009 – In Week 1, the Saints will play host to the Detroit Lions. The Lions, coming off an NFL worst 0-16 season, ranked as the worst statistical defense in 2008-09. They allowed an average of 404.4 total yards per game (232.2 passing, 172.2 rushing).

This is the kind of news that could make Jeremy Shockey a real solid play in Week 1. He is coming off a down year, but looked good in the preseason and is part of perhaps the most explosive offense in the NFL. Drew Brees and the Saints also faced the Lions last season. Brees completed 30 of 40 passes for 351 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. To expect those types of numbers in Week 1 would not be a stretch by any means and Shockey could find himself an integral part of the offensive mix. Shockey is a low-end No. 1 tight end or a high-end No. 2 heading into the season, but this matchup makes him worth starting in most leagues that require starting a tight end.

09/10/2009 - With the Packers’ season opener against Chicago at Lambeau Field looming Sunday night, Cullen Jenkins is back, healthy and ready to resume his role as a disruptive force on the defensive line. “It’s been a long time,” Jenkins said. “I’ve never been on IR before, I’ve never missed that many games. Just anxious – anxious to get back out there and try to pick up where I left off.”

Jenkins tore a pectoral muscle in Week 4 last season. He missed the remainder of the season, and the Green Bay Packers missed him dearly. Jenkins’ return could provide a big boost for the Packers, who consider him one of the best players on a roster that includes plenty of recognizable names. The Packers’ defense had nine sacks in the first three games, and Jenkins was in on 2 1/2 of them. Then Jenkins was injured in the fourth quarter against Tampa Bay – and Green Bay’s defense had only 18 sacks the rest of the season. Their season sack total of 27 was 25th in the league. Expect Jenkins to become a pretty solid Fantasy IDP option at the weak DL position and his health should also greatly boost the value of the Green Bay DST.

The Chiefs also finished with the fewest sacks in the NFL with just 10, so odds are good that Flacco could have plenty of time to sit back and throw in Week 1. Flacco is coming off a strong preseason and we consider this a good matchup for anybody looking for a QB to start as either a No. 2 option or as a low-end No. 1 where your regular No. 1 option is facing a bad matchup.

We like Crosby as a No. 1 Fantasy option, and he could emerge as the No. 1 player at his position. Crosby should be a fine start Week 1 against the Bears.
