09/09/2009 – Brian Westbrook believes he can still be a dynamic running back for the Eagles even as he recovers from injuries that cost him the entire preseason. He had surgery to remove scar tissue and bone fragments from his right ankle in June and also had his left knee cleaned out shortly after the Eagles lost to Arizona in the NFC championship game last January. Westbrook said Wednesday that he feels fresh and hopes he’ll be back to normal after only a few carries. He believes he can be counted on to carry a full load in Sunday’s opener at Carolina. “[I] may be just a tad bit rusty but I think I’ve been practicing hard and [things] have been going pretty well in practice,” Westbrook said.
Expect Westbrook to face the Panthers but not get his typical workload since he is coming back from the ankle surgery. Remember, the Eagles drafted RB LeSean McCoy, and he’ll be able to give Westbrook plenty of breathers throughout the game. Westbrook is a borderline No. 1/No. 2 Fantasy RB worth using against the banged-up Panthers run defense, while McCoy serves as a No. 3 option in deeper leagues.
