19 Eddie Royal WR

Eddie Royal

09/10/2009 – There’s reason to be concerned with the Broncos passing game in Week 1 with the status for QB Kyle Orton (finger) unknown and the whole Brandon Marshall situation, but Royal should be a safe bet at Cincinnati. No matter who lines up under center, those short throws underneath to Royal will be there. And Royal should take advantage of the Bengals’ weak pass defense, which allowed 23 touchdowns last year.

Royal started off his rookie year on a high note last year with nine catches for 146 yards and a touchdown against the Raiders and could play well again in this year’s opener. Consider him a No. 2 Fantasy WR this week.

25 LeSean McCoy RB

LeSean McCoy09/09/2009Brian Westbrook believes he can still be a dynamic running back for the Eagles even as he recovers from injuries that cost him the entire preseason. He had surgery to remove scar tissue and bone fragments from his right ankle in June and also had his left knee cleaned out shortly after the Eagles lost to Arizona in the NFC championship game last January. Westbrook said Wednesday that he feels fresh and hopes he’ll be back to normal after only a few carries. He believes he can be counted on to carry a full load in Sunday’s opener at Carolina. “[I] may be just a tad bit rusty but I think I’ve been practicing hard and [things] have been going pretty well in practice,” Westbrook said.

Expect Westbrook to face the Panthers but not get his typical workload since he is coming back from the ankle surgery. Remember, the Eagles drafted RB LeSean McCoy, and he’ll be able to give Westbrook plenty of breathers throughout the game. Westbrook is a borderline No. 1/No. 2 Fantasy RB worth using against the banged-up Panthers run defense, while McCoy serves as a No. 3 option in deeper leagues.

80 Donald Driver WR

Donald Driver

09/23/2009 – Packers WR Donald Driver will face a non-division opponent in Week 3 at St. Louis. The Rams have allowed 258 passing yards per game in th first two weeks of the season, including three touchdown passes. They rank 25th in the NFL in pass defense.

Driver has 10 catches for 138 yards and a touchdown over the first two weeks and is coming off a six-catch 99-yard performance against the Bengals and remains a viable No. 2 WR option or above-average No. 3 WR for Week 3 against a weak Rams pass defense.

09/08/2009 – Packers WR Donald Driver last caught a touchdown pass against his Week 1 opponent the Bears back in 2006. Last season in two games, Driver caught 10 passes for 123 yards. In the game at Green Bay, he caught four balls for 60.

Driver set the team mark last year with his 6th 1,000-yard receiving season. He has receptions in 111 straight games, the longest streak in club history. While we expect a much better season in 2009, he’s still the team’s No. 2 option behind Greg Jennings. He’s not exactly an old man compared to other veteran receivers, but he’s close, which might turn off some owners from using him. Don’t be one of those owners — consider him a No. 3 option in Week 1.

23 Pierre Thomas RB

Pierre Thomas

09/25/2009 – New Orleans running back situation is in a state of flux going into Sunday’s game against Buffalo as leading rusher Mike Bell won’t play. Bell missed practice all week with a sprained MCL in his right knee. Coach Sean Payton didn’t want to discuss the running back rotation after Friday’s practice. The Saints could use a trio of running back against the Bills with Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush and Lynell Hamilton all seeing possible action.

Thomas (knee) is set to return to action after missing out on carries in Week 2. It’s not sure how much work he will get since Bush and Hamilton are both 100 percent. Bush is probably the safest play out of all three backs, with Thomas being at best a No. 3 Fantasy RB or flex option and Hamilton a desperation start. It’s a tough matchup for the Saints on the ground since Buffalo has a top 10 rush defense.

09/11/2009 – As expected, Saints RB Pierre Thomas (knee) was listed as out for Week 1 against Detroit. Thomas did not take part in any team drills this week and has been out since the second preseason game with the injury. With Thomas a no-go, coach Sean Payton said potentially it could mean a split load for Reggie Bush and Mike Bell. “We feel like Mike had a pretty good training camp and Reggie is healthy. You’ve got to have enough gas back there to where you’re not just leaning on one player,” Payton said.

Keep Thomas reserved for Week 1 in all leagues, and hopefully he can return for Week 2 at Philadelphia. Bell is a great replacement option and should be considered a No. 3 Fantasy RB in Week 1. Bush also remains an excellent start against the Lions and should be active in all formats.

09/09/2009 – Saints RB Pierre Thomas (knee) practiced with a brace on his right knee during the portion of practice the media was allowed to watch Thursday. He is listed on the injury report as questionable for Week 1 against Detroit after missing practice Wednesday.

This is encouraging news for Thomas, but we still expect him to miss this week after being injured in the second preseason game and missing the final two preseason outings. Thomas could be a game-time decision, but the Saints will probably be cautious and not give him much playing time if he does get in there. Mike Bell would be a great replacement for Thomas if you’re looking for someone off the waiver wire, and Bell has played well during the preseason with Thomas hurt.

85 Greg Jennings WR

Greg Jennings

09/23/2009 – Packers WR Greg Jennings will face a non-division opponent in Week 3 at St. Louis. The Rams have allowed 258 passing yards per game in th first two weeks of the season, including three touchdown passes. They rank 25th in the NFL in pass defense.

Jennings is not the type of receiver Fantasy owners need incentive to start, but this is a good reason why he should be active in all leagues for Week 3. Jennings dealt with a wrist injury leading up to Week 2 and was held without a catch, but all signs point to a resurgence against the Rams. QB Aaron Rodgers said his timing with Jennings was off in Week 2, leading to the lack of catches.

Green Bay WR Greg Jennings has scored a touchdown against his Week 1 opponent, the Chicago Bears, in three of the last four games he’s played against them, including both games last year. In 2008, Jennings totaled 11 catches against the Bears for 102 yards and two scores. Week 1′s game is at Green Bay and Jennings had 64 yards in the game at Lambeau last year.

Jennings had a career-high 80 catches and 1,292 yards in 2008 for the Packers and is every bit a No. 1 Fantasy WR heading into 2009. Jennings might get his first 100-yard game against the division rival Bears in Week 1 and should be active in most Fantasy leagues.

36 Brian Westbrook RB

Brian Westbrook

09/25/2009 – RB Brian Westbrook did not practice on Friday as the Eagles prepare for a Week 3 matchup vs. Kansas City and has been listed as questionable for the game. Westbrook is working his way back from a sprained ankle suffered last week. Speculation is that Westbrook still has a fairly good chance to play as he’s missed a week’s worth of practices before and still suited up on Sundays. LeSean McCoy continued to see the bulk of the reps with the first-team offense in Westbrook’s absence and would play extensively if Westbrook is inactive for Sunday.

If you drafted Westbrook you knew all along that he was an injury risk, especially after late-offseason ankle surgery that cost him his preseason. McCoy is the perfect insurance policy for Westbrook and would be a stellar Fantasy option in Week 3 if Westbrook cannot go. If Westbrook can play, then expect to see along the lines of a 60-40 split of carries between the two running backs as the Eagles won’t want to overextend their valuable veteran. we’ll be first to know whether or not he’ll be active this Sunday on Fantasy Football Today, 11 a.m. ET here on CBSSports.com. Tune in then.

09/11/2009 – Eagles RB Brian Westbrook (knee), who missed the entire preseason due to injuries, is listed as probable for Week 1 at Carolina. He took limited practice reps Friday as a precaution after working in full Wednesday and Thursday. “He’s fine,” head coach Andy Reid said. “We’ve been trying to monitor him as much as we possibly can and just limit his reps. He’s going to be fine.”

While rookie LeSean McCoy had a solid preseason with Westbrook on the sidelines, there was never any doubts that Westbrook wouldn’t be the team’s featured back when healthy. Hopefully, all the rest has him raring to go in the opener. Westbrook is a borderline No. 1/No. 2 Fantasy RB worth using against the banged-up Panthers run defense.

81 Calvin Johnson WR

Calvin Johnson

09/23/2009 – Lions WR Calvin Johnson will face a non-division opponent in Week 3 vs. Washington. The Redskins have allowed just 183.5 passing yards per game during the first two weeks of the season. They have allowed two touchdown passes.

Johnson caught five passes for 51 yards and a score in Week 2 against a good Vikings defense and should be in line for useful Fantasy numbers once again in Week 3. He is not a player we recommend sitting in any type of league, regardless of matchup. We currently project him to catch five passes for 85 yards and a score in Week 3.

09/10/2009 – Calvin Johnson and the Detroit Lions will take on a non-divisional opponent in Week 1 when they travel to New Orleans to take on the Saints. Last season, the Saints ranked 23rd in the NFL in pass defense, allowing 221.7 yards per game. They allowed 21 touchdowns.

Johnson is used to playing indoors as all of his home games are in doors, so playing at the Superdome should be a comfortable environment for him. Johnson remains one of the elite receivers in Fantasy despite playing for the lowly Lions and the fact he’ll have a rookie QB throwing his way should not scare anybody off. The Saints don’t have a strong secondary and we are currently projecting Johnson to finish with seven catches for 114 yards and a score. Start him in all leagues.

09/09/2009 – Even though the Detroit Lions where beyond bad last year, there was a reason to watch them play: Calvin Johnson. The freak wide receiver known as Megatron overcame playing with little offensive help and five different quarterbacks to finish with career-best totals: 1,331 yards on 78 catches (17.1 avg.) and 12 touchdowns.

Calvin Johnson had 100 yards receiving and/or a touchdown in 11 games last year and was able to beat double-team coverage on a number of occasions. There is little doubt that Johnson will continue to flourish in 2009, especially with the club adding the aggressive Scott Linehan as their offensive coordinator. And don’t forget that it’s his third NFL season, though we’d be pretty satisfied with a repeat of his stats. The addition of strong-armed QB Matthew Stafford helps his cause. Johnson is decidedly a No. 1 Fantasy WR worth a second-round pick (and possibly as high as 15th overall) in drafts this summer.

The Draft is Done

Alright the draft is done and I am pretty excited about my team. This year we added both a flex position as well as PPR, both are big changes but PPR changed the draft more than the former. I actually had a different strategy this year from former years. I will list the different rounds here and explain my thoughts.

Round 1
Pick Team Player
1. No Punt Intended, Adrian Peterson (RB MIN)
2. MadPigskin, Andre Johnson (WR HOU)
3. Pegasus, Steven Jackson (RB STL)
4. Victorious Secret, Randy Moss (WR NE)
5. Green Machine, Calvin Johnson (WR DET)
6. Farq’s Clan, Drew Brees (QB NO)
7. Donkeys, Jay Cutler (QB CHI)
8. Cereal Killers, Michael Turner (RB ATL)
9. Vick In A Box, Tom Brady (QB NE)
10. BiggieShorty, Matt Forte (RB CHI)
11. REKing Crew, Philip Rivers (QB SD)
12. Jamie Beef, Aaron Rodgers (QB GB)
13. Urine Trouble, Peyton Manning (QB IND)
14. Kevin Kilborn, Frank Gore (RB SF)

Round 2
15. Kevin Kilborn, Brandon Jacobs (RB NYG)
16. Urine Trouble, Marion Barber (RB DAL)
17. Jamie Beef, Steve Slaton (RB HOU)
18. REKing Crew, Joseph Addai (RB IND)
19. BiggieShorty, Larry Fitzgerald (WR ARI)
20. Vick In A Box, DeAngelo Williams (RB CAR)
21. Cereal Killers, Maurice Jones-Drew (RB JAC)
22. Donkeys, Roddy White (WR ATL)
23. Farq’s Clan, Chris Johnson (RB TEN)
24. Green Machine, Brian Westbrook (RB PHI)
25. Victorious Secret, Santonio Holmes (WR PIT)
26. Pegasus, Reggie Bush (RB NO)
27. MadPigskin, LaDainian Tomlinson (RB SD)
28. No Punt Intended, Marques Colston (WR NO)

Round 1 and round 2 where both keeper rounds, so the order doesn’t reflect the order the players where actually drafted in, each member of the league got to keep two players from their teams last year. The 28 guys above where the keepers. I kept both Calvin Johnson & Brian Westbrook. I’m sure I would have kept them both even before we went to PPR, but once that decision was made it was a no brainer.

Round 3
29. No Punt Intended, Ryan Grant (RB GB)
30. MadPigskin, Kurt Warner (QB ARI)
31. Pegasus, Clinton Portis (RB WAS)
32. Victorious Secret, Kevin Smith (RB DET)
33. Green Machine , Greg Jennings (WR GB)
34. Farq’s Clan, Reggie Wayne (WR IND)
35. Donkeys Steve, Smith (WR CAR)
36. Cereal Killers, Donovan McNabb (QB PHI)
37. Vick In A Box, Larry Johnson (RB KC)
38. BiggieShorty, Tony Romo (QB DAL)
39. REKing Crew, Antonio Gates (TE SD)
40. Jamie Beef, Cedric Benson (RB CIN)
41. Urine Trouble, Willie Parker (RB PIT)
42. Kevin Kilborn, Anquan Boldin (WR ARI)

There weren’t too many surprises in round three I think there where some real stretches none bigger than Antonio Gates. I was happy to get Greg Jennings.

Round 4
43. Kevin Kilborn, Matt Ryan (QB ATL)
44. Urine Trouble, Darren McFadden (RB OAK)
45. Jamie Beef, Dwayne Bowe (WR KC)
46. REKing Crew, Wes Welker (WR NE)
47. BiggieShorty, Chad Ochocinco (WR CIN)
48. Vick In A Box, T.J. Houshmandzadeh (WR SEA)
49. Cereal Killers, Brandon Marshall (WR DEN)
50. Donkeys, Ronnie Brown (RB MIA)
51. Farq’s Clan, Marshawn Lynch (RB BUF)
52. Green Machine, Pierre Thomas (RB NO)
53. Victorious Secret, Thomas Jones (RB NYJ)
54. Pegasus, Carson Palmer (QB CIN)
55. MadPigskin, Eli Manning (QB NYG)
56. No Punt Intended, Matt Hasselbeck (QB SEA)

There was some big surprises in the forth round as well. I could be wrong but I think Chad Ochocinco going 47th overall is way to high. Regardless of injury I was really happy to steal Pierre Thomas in the forth round.

Round 5
57. No Punt Intended, Anthony Gonzalez (WR IND)
58. MadPigskin, Terrell Owens (WR BUF)
59. Pegasus, Roy E. Williams (WR DAL)
60. Victorious Secret, Ben Roethlisberger (QB PIT)
61. Green Machine, Knowshon Moreno (RB DEN)
62. Farq’s Clan, Hines Ward (WR PIT)
63. Donkeys, Derrick Ward (RB TB)
64. Cereal Killers, Vincent Jackson (WR SD)
65. Vick In A Box, Jason Witten (TE DAL)
66. BiggieShorty, Greg Olsen (TE CHI)
67. REKing Crew, LenDale White (RB TEN)
68. Jamie Beef, Bernard Berrian (WR MIN)
69. Urine Trouble, Lee Evans (WR BUF)
70. Kevin Kilborn, Braylon Edwards (WR CLE)

There wasn’t many surprises in this round. I normally stay away from rookies but I think for a round 5, Knowshon Moreno was a pretty good deal.

Round 6
71. Kevin Kilborn, Dallas Clark (TE IND)
72. Urine Trouble, Santana Moss (WR WAS)
73. Jamie Beef, Steelers (DST PIT)
74. REKing Crew, Darren Sproles (RB SD)
75. BiggieShorty, Ray Rice (RB BAL)
76. Vick In A Box, Jonathan Stewart (RB CAR)
77. Cereal Killers, Chris Cooley (TE WAS)
78. Donkeys, Devin Hester (WR CHI)
79. Farq’s Clan, Lance Moore (WR NO)
80. Green Machine, Matt Schaub (QB HOU)
81. Victorious Secret, John Carlson (TE SEA)
82. Pegasus, Owen Daniels (TE HOU)
83. MadPigskin, Kellen Winslow (TE TB)
84. No Punt Intended, Tony Gonzalez (TE ATL)

This round was a little odd, first of all a defence went at the start of the 6th round. I was happy with this round, I waited a long time to pull the trigger on a quarterback and was really happy to pickup Matt Schaub this far into the draft.

Round 7
85. No Punt Intended, Donnie Avery (WR STL)
86. MadPigskin, Giants (DST NYG)
87. Pegasus, Laveranues Coles (WR CIN)
88. Victorious Secret, Vikings (DST MIN)
89. Green Machine, Donald Driver (WR GB)
90. Farq’s Clan, Julius Jones (RB SEA)
91. Donkeys, Zach Miller (TE OAK)
92. Cereal Killers, David Garrard (QB JAC)
93. Vick In A Box, Ravens (DST BAL)
94. BiggieShorty, Jamal Lewis (RB CLE)
95. REKing Crew, Chris Chambers (WR SD)
96. Jamie Beef, Brent Celek (TE PHI)
97. Urine Trouble, Tim Hightower (RB ARI)
98. Kevin Kilborn, Felix Jones (RB DAL)

I’m not sure if this was my best round but when I saw Donald Driver still on the board during the 7th round I had to snap him up. I am a huge Packers fan and try really hard not to collect the whole team like I have in other years.

Round 8
99. Kevin Kilborn, Dolphins (DST MIA)
100. Urine Trouble, Jets (DST NYJ)
101. Jamie Beef, Jerricho Cotchery (WR NYJ)
102. REKing Crew, Steve Breaston (WR ARI)
103. BiggieShorty, Eagles (DST PHI)
104. Vick In A Box, Kevin Walter (WR HOU)
105. Cereal Killers, Bears (DST CHI)
106. Donkeys, Titans (DST TEN)
107. Farq’s Clan, Edgerrin James (RB SEA)
108. Green Machine, LeSean McCoy (RB PHI)
109. Victorious Secret, Michael Crabtree (WR SF)
110. Pegasus, Patriots (DST NE)
111. MadPigskin, Tony Scheffler (TE DEN)
112. No Punt Intended, James Davis (RB CLE)

I think I reached too far in round 8. I don’t think LeSean McCoy was on anyone radar but I didn’t want to miss out on Brian Westbrook’s backup just incase. Michael Crabtree was an odd pick in this round, even if he does sign he is playing in San Francisco which is traditionally a running team.

Round 9
113. No Punt Intended, Trent Edwards (QB BUF)
114. MadPigskin, Earnest Graham (RB TB)
115. Pegasus, Percy Harvin (WR MIN)
116. Victorious Secret, Chester Taylor (RB MIN)
117. Green Machine, Jeremy Shockey (TE NO)
118. Farq’s Clan, Cowboys (DST DAL)
119. Donkeys, Donald Brown (RB IND)
120. Cereal Killers, Torry Holt (WR JAC)
121. Vick In A Box, Brett Favre (QB MIN)
122. BiggieShorty, Jerious Norwood (RB ATL)
123. REKing Crew, Deion Branch (WR SEA)
124. Jamie Beef, Leon Washington (RB NYJ)
125. Urine Trouble, Kevin Boss (TE NYG)
126. Kevin Kilborn, Fred Taylor (RB NE)

This round I picked up Jeremy Shockey I needed a tightend and he was the best available. I watched a lot of the preseason and he looked good. He plays in probably the most explosive offence in the NFL so although he hasn’t done much in the last couple years he does have a huge upside.

Round 10
127. Kevin Kilborn, Josh Morgan (WR SF)
128. Urine Trouble, Shaun Hill (QB SF)
129. Jamie Beef, Jeremy Maclin (WR PHI)
130. REKing Crew, Kerry Collins (QB TEN)
131. BiggieShorty, Jerramy Stevens (TE TB)
132. Vick In A Box, Jamaal Charles (RB KC)
133. Cereal Killers, Willis McGahee (RB BAL)
134. Donkeys, Kyle Orton (QB DEN)
135. Farq’s Clan, Mark Sanchez (QB NYJ)
136. Green Machine, Rashard Mendenhall (RB PIT)
137. Victorious Secret, Kevin Curtis (WR PHI)
138. Pegasus, Ted Ginn Jr. (WR MIA)
139. MadPigskin, Anthony Fasano (TE MIA)
140. No Punt Intended, Earl Bennett (WR CHI)

This round I grabbed Rashard Mendenhall. I was originally very happy with this pick but the day after I snap him up the Steelers announce Willie Parker will get the majority of goal line carries. I’m not to concerned at this point there was pretty slim pickings so he is decent trade bait.

Round 11
141. No Punt Intended, DeSean Jackson (WR PHI)
142. MadPigskin, Ahmad Bradshaw (RB NYG)
143. Pegasus, Matt Cassel (QB KC)
144. Victorious Secret, Chad Pennington (QB MIA)
145 Green Machine, Eddie Royal (WR DEN)
146. Farq’s Clan, Visanthe Shiancoe (TE MIN)
147. Donkeys, Derrick Mason (WR BAL)
148. Cereal Killers, Heath Miller (TE PIT)
149. Vick In A Box, Domenik Hixon (WR NYG)
150. BiggieShorty, Patrick Crayton (WR DAL)
151. REKing Crew, Bo Scaife (TE TEN)
152. Jamie Beef, Beanie Wells (RB ARI)
153. Urine Trouble, Dustin Keller (TE NYJ)
154. Kevin Kilborn, Antonio Bryant (WR TB)

I was super happy to get Eddie Royal in this round. He would normally be a great pickup but in a PPR league he is money.

Round 12
155. Kevin Kilborn, LeRon McClain (RB BAL)
156. Urine Trouble, Steve Smith (WR NYG)
157. Jamie Beef, Darrius Heyward-Bey (WR OAK)
158. REKing Crew, Jordy Nelson (WR GB)
159. BiggieShorty, Jake Delhomme (QB CAR)
160. Vick In A Box, Fred Jackson (RB BUF)
161. Cereal Killers, Tyler Thigpen (QB KC)
162. Donkeys, Bobby Engram (WR KC)
163. Farq’s Clan, Stephen Gostkowski (K NE)
164. Green Machine, Mason Crosby (K GB)
165. Victorious Secret, Jason Elam (K ATL)
166. Pegasus, Rob Bironas (K TEN)
167. MadPigskin, Muhsin Muhammad (WR CAR)
168. No Punt Intended, Redskins (DST WAS)

This round I grabbed a kicker, I wanted a top 5 kicker and their weren’t many players still available I had any interest in.

Round 13
169. No Punt Intended, Bernard Scott (RB CIN)
170. MadPigskin, Ryan Longwell (K MIN)
171. Pegasus, Chris Henry (WR CIN)
172. Victorious Secret, Greg Jones (RB JAC)
173. Green Machine, Joe Flacco (QB BAL)
174. Farq’s Clan, Todd Heap (TE BAL)
175. Donkeys, David Akers (K PHI)
176. Cereal Killers, Isaac Bruce (WR SF)
177. Vick In A Box, Nate Kaeding (K SD)
178. BiggieShorty, Neil Rackers (K ARI)
179. REKing Crew, Jeff Reed (K PIT)
180. Jamie Beef, Robbie Gould (K CHI)
181. Urine Trouble, Nick Folk (K DAL)
182. Kevin Kilborn, John Carney (K NO)

I grabbed my backup quarterback here. I know Joe Flacco isn’t exactly a stud quarterback but I was pretty happy to be able to grab him in the 13th round.

Round 14
183. Kevin Kilborn, Sammy Morris (RB NE)
184. Urine Trouble, Joey Galloway (WR NE)
185. Jamie Beef, Marc Bulger (QB STL)
186. REKing Crew, Michael Bush (RB OAK)
187. BiggieShorty, Devery Henderson (WR NO)
188. Vick In A Box, Michael Vick (QB PHI)
189. Cereal Killers, John Kasay (K CAR)
190. Donkeys, Ricky Williams (RB MIA)
191. Farq’s Clan, Nate Washington (WR TEN)
192. Green Machine, Packers (DST GB)
193. Victorious Secret, Glen Coffee (RB SF)
194. Pegasus, Vernon Davis (TE SF)
195. MadPigskin, Laurence Maroney (RB NE)
196. No Punt Intended, Matt Prater (K DEN)

This was my favourite pick of the draft. I got the Packers defence with the 192 pick in the draft. That is what I would call VALUE!

Another Year Of Fantasy Football

Last year I started a small blog detailing all the different moves of one of my personal fantasy football leagues. I didn’t think much of it until I look at how many people where actually following the blog, so I decided this year to take it a little more serious and try to provide more fantasy football details and comments than in previous years. I hope you enjoy Fantasy Football Passport and hope you have a fun and successful year of fantasy football.
